Never Ending Story ~ Limahl

Turn around

Look at what you see

In her face

The mirror of your dreams

Make believe I'm everywhere

Given in the light

Written on the pages

Is the answer to a never ending story...

Reach the stars

Fly a fantasy

Dream a dream

And what you see will be

Rhymes that keep their secrets

Will unfold behind the clouds

And there upon a rainbow

Is the answer to a never ending story...

Show no fear

For she may fade away

In your hand

The birth of a new day

Rhymes that keep their secrets

Will unfold behind the clouds

And there upon a rainbow

Is the answer to a never ending story

A Stigma As An Iban In Malaysia Part 2

I made this two posts to let you know how i feel this past few years. Most of the people i met would give me that LOOK or totally ignore me because i look like filipino. I admit 4 years in JB, i have noticed some Iban or Bidayuh girl working in pubs & clubs downtown JB although they would tell me they are from elsewhere when i asked them. Some are embarrased to admit it. I don't mind it anyway.

In our street also have Iban ladies work in pubs. I know they are Iban. I'd love to approach them and chat but i believe it is best just to smile and wave from far. I respect their privacy. They came to JB for certain reason. Whatever the work they take must have been the best they can get. At least they earn a living.
Although, not all Iban / Bidayuh girl come here to work in pubs. Some land decent job like engineer, technicians, Store manager, Shop keeper...i know i've met them. They also recognised me as an Iban too. 50.000 Dayak in JB doing just fine after all.

Location : Restoran F***, Masai . 4 years ago.
A conversation with the restaurant owner.
****
Tauke Neo : Oh...so you are from Sarawak? Can eat pork kah?

TLL : Can, why not?

TN : No lah...i heard there are two types of Malay there. One can eat pork, one cannot eat pork.

****
So little information that lead to misconception. Sigh! After 4 years staying in Johor Bahru, i am getting fed up and tired trying to introduce myself to people. It was so weird. They have the first impression that i am a foreigner (not ang moh but filipino ) and immediately their body language changed. I feel being double standard almost all the time. Not only because i'm a woman but as a woman with a stigma.

A stigma as an IBAN in Malaysia Part 1

2009...1957
53 years after independence day.

2 weeks ago, a TNB guy come and check our meter. I was upstair and papa was downstair monitoring him and telling him about our meter problem. I guess i just want to take a peek from the staircase to see what was taking him so long. The TNB guy and papa was talking and he catched a glance of me and continue talking. He took the second glance at me and this time he have THAT look on his face. I knew it!

TNB Guy to Papa : So ini bil sapa mau bayar...dia ka awak?
Papa : Apa beza dia atau saya bayar? Apa masalah?
TNB Guy : Tak..dulu saya datang sini dia cakap BAHASA INGGERIS.

So tell me, what do you think was going on?
Well, i tell you what i'm thinking what he think was going on.

1. Just because i speak in English, he think i am a Filipino 'maid'.

2. Then, he saw that my skin is not as pale as Filipino, his BEST second guess is i am an Indonesian 'maid'.

3. I CAN SPEAK MANDARIN! So am i a China Chinese as well?

For all my Malaysian friends [especially TNB Guy], please come out from our selfish coconut shell and take a look around you. This Malaysia is not only about YOU alone. There are more of US than YOU alone. WE ARE MALAYSIAN too. Is it because my face doesn't fit any of the 3 races that I strongly believe is the only races you know? or this incident happen because i can speak multiple languages?! what if i can speak tamil too? am i an Indian? Do you know what race is Lain-lain? Why the Gov must classify us into Bumiputera Sarawak, Bumiputera Sabah & Bumiputera? What does Gov mean by that?! Aren't we Bumiputera enough? Or Gov just bestow the title Bumiputera for the sake of ELECTION? what's the deal here?!
I AM AN IBAN...do i need to get myself tattooed to proved that too and wearing our traditional clothes everyday? ...I'll get a tattoo...anyway.

After Midnight Apple Pie

***bukan beli, tau. made from scratch punya.Crumbly crust.***
Apple pie
Pastry
2 ½ c all purpose flour
½ tsp salt
¼ c shortening
½ cup cold butter/margarine
4 to 6 tbsp ice water

Filling
8 Apples, sliced

[ i use red apple Pink Lady coz they're sweet and recently available in the market]
½ c white sugar / brown sugar
3 tbsp cornflour
2 tbsp butter / margarine cubes
1 tbsp cinnamon

Method
To make the crust, mix flour and salt. Cut in or grate shortening and margarine into the flour. Mix until it looks like coarse crumb.
Try to have least hand contact with the dough. Use only your finger tips or fork to mix them up.

Sprinkle ice water a tablespoon at a time until dough just moist enough to shape into ball.

Separate dough into 2 ball, 1 ball larger for the base and 1 for top crust. Wrap in clingwrap and let it rest in fridge for 30 minutes.

Take one dough out and roll it into your pan.

Prepare apples. Peel, core & slice apples into uniform thickness. Add sugar, cornflour & cinnamon powder.

Pour in the apple mixture. Place the butter cubes on top of the apple mixture.

Roll second dough to cover the pie. Slit few places to vent out the steam while baking later.

Brush egg on top of the pie. Bake at 218° C for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

****
Tips for choosing apple :
Actually any type of apple would do. Most common type of apple used for making pie called Granny Smith [green] and Golden Delicious [yellow] coz the apples won't get too mushy when cooked. Best way is to get mix two or more types of apple and i can assure your pie will be more delicious!!!
If you like sweeter pie, try Fuji [red]or Pink Lady [red].

****Can't sleep so there you go, an apple pie made after midnight...hence the name.****

****For breakfast, brunch or tea break and for that sneaky midnight snack!****

※My Love※

My love, we have seen it all
The Endless confession,
The rise and fall
As fragile as a child
Lately I’m sorry I can’t hold a smile
But I stand tall to get by
No matter how hard I try to hide
Did you know
I take the time for you

Did you know that I would see you through
Did you know that I would play the part
I must’ve made it clear right from the start
My love, can you give me strength
Somehow I forgot how to ease my pain
I know I’m right where I belong
Something from nothing never proved me wrong
But I stand tall to get by
No matter how hard I try to hide
Did you know I take the time for you
Did you know that I would see you through
Did you know that I would play the part
I must’ve made it clear right from the start
I would shade my whole life with you
Would you do the same for me
I would give all I am to you
Would you do the same for me
And I will stand tall to get by
No matter how hard I try to hide
Could you see I’ve been brave
Did you notice all my mistakes
There were times I could feel you read my mind
Did you know I take the time for you
Did you know that I would see you through
Did you know that I would play the part
I know I made it clear right from the start
